Authentication of Haitian documents

All documents from Haiti can be authenticated by the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago provided that they were previously authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Haiti.

Authentication of US documents going to Haiti

For the authentication of a document for Haiti, all foreign nationals must proceed as follows:

  1. Present the document before a Notary Public;
  2. Authenticate the Notary Public’s signature by the Secretary of State of the state where the notary resides;
  3. Send the document to the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago via mail (USPS, FedEx, DHL, etc..) with a return envelope.

The fee for authentication of foreign documents is US $25 per document, payable by money order or bank check (no cash, no personal check) made out to the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago.

Power of Attorney (Mandate)

A mandate or power of attorney allows a person to delegate certain powers of legal representation to any other person of his choice. All persons of Haitian origin who wish to mandate a person to represent him/her as an agent in Haiti must submit to the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago a valid Haitian passport or a valid foreign passport with proof of Haitian origin. Proof of Haitian origin includes a birth certificate or expired passport. Applicant must be able to provide the following information on the designated agent:
  1. Name(s), surname(s)
  2. Address and tax identification card (NIF) number
Power of Attorney for pension use is $20 and $15 for shipping

Property Sale Mandate

The Interested Party Must:

  1. Have the title deed.
  2. Be able to explain the conditions under which the principal (person giving authorization) owns.
  3. Have a valid passport.
  4. Have the name of the representative (person to whom authorization / proxy is given).
  5. Have the number of the representative’s identity card.

 

Vehicle Sales Mandate

The Interested Party Must:

  1. Provide the make and model of the vehicle.
  2. Provide year, color, serial number, engine number, number of cylinders, number of doors in the vehicle.
  3. Have a valid passport.
  4. Have the name of the representative (person to whom authorization / proxy is given).
  5. Have the proxy card number.

NB: If the client is not Haitian, you must:

  1. Prepare the document or mandate.
  2. Present the document or mandate before a notary of his choice.
  3. Have the notary’s signature authenticated by the Illinois secretary of state.
  4. Go to the Consulate with the above information.
